30 Before 30:
- Go to the gym 5 days a week for three months (18/60)
This was kind of a bust last week. I managed to get to the gym on Tuesday, but for the rest of the week was felled with a crud that only manifested itself as fatigue. I found myself sleeping later than I planned to, and even not hearing my alarm one morning.
I never thought I would be the type of person who started to crave exercise, but I did, so I finally went back to the yoga studio Wednesday, and put in my hour at the gym yesterday. I could definitely tell that it wasn’t laziness, as I’d slightly feared, but actual illness that had kept me home. And yet, at the same time, I could tell that the previous month of interval training and the restorative poses I did Wednesday evening helped me have more endurance than I would have otherwise. In this morning’s vinyasa yoga class, I was able to keep up for far longer than I could the first week (despite waking up at 3 a.m.) but the inversions got to me and, after a while, I pretty much sat on the mat focusing on my breath until triangle pose (and almost fell asleep in savasana).
I keep wishing I’d known how to properly train in college, or even a few years ago. If I’d known about target heart rates and what to eat before and after exercise and how much sleep affects performance … would I have fallen away from running? It always felt like too much to keep up with. The way I was doing it, it was.
- Complete 5 races (0/5)
We’ve scheduled ourselves for all five before December. Now to keep healthy and injury-free …
